The enclave of eight homes was designed around the philosophy of sustainability. One of the solutions to sustainability is home development following LEED Canada for Homes standards – a more encompassing environmental approach than typical green building practices.

We wanted to go above and beyond just energy-saving windows or high-efficiency heating systems. With LEED, it is a more holistic certification, stewarding the integration of the home on its lot and governing the treatment of the land, as well as construction and waste practices. Our clients care about these issues. Not just what their home is, but how it was built.

Environmental-sensitivity and energy-efficiency are integrated into the design concept. Roof overhangs and window placement exploit thermal effectiveness. Landscape designs blend xeriscaping (areas not requiring supplemental watering) with natural reserve areas. Water run-off programs, home automation systems, and even solar-electric and solar-thermal for supplementary home energy, can be made available as well.

Creating a truly custom home to “LEED for Homes” guidelines is not a prescriptive exercise. Instead, the process is an evolving one, changing to suit the homebuyers’ lifestyle and choices.

There are no two identical ways for these homes to evolve from concept to completion, so each home will take a slightly different path to LEED certification. Should you wish to design a home with Bordeaux’s affiliate builder,  the team is in place to shepherd the homes from design to finish, Alterrnatively, the builder you choose should be able to assist you with crafting a sustainable residence, culminating in an enclave of Eco-Luxury homes in a Micro-Community comprised of residents with shared passion for aesthetics, fine things, and enjoying them responsibly.

  • Homes are directionally orientated to maximize solar gain in winter, as well as views.
  • Oversized roof overhangs help keep home cool in summer months, diminishing the need for mechanical cooling system use.
  • Energy efficient appliances
  • Low-E argon filled windows
  • Ultra-high efficient electric hot water tanks
  • Highly efficient boiler systems for in-slab radiant heating and hot water supply
  • Construction methods include minimizing construction waste through use of engineered products, as well as utilizing a waste diversion and recycling strategy to minimize landfill impact.
  • Hot water recirculation on a timer which provides practically instant hot water. System helps to eliminate wasted water from leaving taps on waiting for hot water. Homeowners can save thousands of gallons of water each year, plus use less energy by not having to heat wasted water. By sending less water down the drain, you also lessen the load on the regional sewer system.
  • Each home could include a complete, LEED conscious landscape design. Designs will blend xeriscaping (areas not requiring supplemental watering), and natural environmental reserve areas on each lot.
  • Comprehensive rainwater management, utilizing landscaped water features and rainwater storage
  • Recycled roof shingle system, made from recycled tires
  • Sustainable wood for flooring
  • Solar electric panels
  • Solar thermal heating supplemental system for hot water
  • Energy efficient Expanded Polystyrene and steel foundation walls
  • Domestic grey water recycling system
  • Flexibility to research and implement other techniques and materials on behalf of our homeowners.
